Classes offered at ASD

( The following is a a description of the styles of dance offered to help you decide where your interests lie. )Once you decide what style of dance you would like to study our current class schedule is located in the “Schedule” pulldown menu at the top of our site.

Tap

A percussive form of dance where the dancer is also a musician - tap shoes required

Jazz

May have different styles such as Broadway, Street or Urban, Dance Team or Competition style performed to jazz or pop music this style of dance uses leaps, turns, kicks, classic jazz steps and isolations. May rely heavily on unison for certain styles while others do not.

Ballet/Pointe

Classical dance performed in ballet shoes, we use a combination of Vagonova and the French school of technique.Pointe is offered to students at an intermediate or advanced level who are ages 11 and up. Most be evaluated for readiness.

Hip Hop

An urban dance form derived from street dance and performed to hip hop music with clean lyrics

Lyrical

Slow style of dance where lyrics of the song are interpreted through movement. This form ustilizes technique and flexibility. A ballet class is recommended in conjunction with this class.

Contemporary/Modern

May be abstract, artistic, uses isolations and timing or abstract concepts and pedestrian movement. Can tell a story or notand is recommended with ballet training. For ages 11 and up.

POM

Dance using Poms in choreography, cheer dance

Acrobatics

A style of gymnastics that incorporates floor work, moderate tumbling and flexibility in conjunction with

Flexibility and Strength

A combined or separate class focusing on either conditioning the entire body or flexibility training . Offered for dancers and non dancers. Sometimes offered in combination.

Leaps and Turns

A class that is offered by level to our competitive dance teams to develop their skills in leaps, turns and tricks

Heels

A jazz or tap class taught in high heeled character or tap shoes. See Instructor for specific shoe being used.
